Dr West Honored at Tarleton

"Dr. Rusty West graduated from Comanche High School and earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Tarleton in 1980. He received his medical degree from Texas Tech and did his family practice residency at John Peter Smith in Fort Worth. Dr. West has been in family practice in Nocona since 1988 and has delivered over 1000 babies and performed over 800 surgeries. Recognized as a model for rural health care, Dr. West built a 10,000 square foot state-of-the-art clinic onto the Nocona General Hospital that has been selected as a Top 100 hospital in the nation. The son of a football coach, Rusty enjoys coaching youth sports and he runs 70 head of cattle on his 200 acre ranch on Lake Nocona."

"Stephen Barr has worked as an editor and reporter at the Washington Post for 20 years, serving in the Metro News, Style and National News departments of the newspaper.  He currently writes the Federal Diary column, focusing on issues of interest to the region’s 300,000 federal employees.  He was selected as the Federal Diary columnist in May 2000 after seven years as a National staff writer covering federal management and personnel issues, “reinventing government,” the U.S. Postal Service, veterans’ affairs, the congressional appropriations process, and government technology challenges, including the Year 2000 computer glitch. His previous assignments at the Post include a six-year stint as editor of the Federal Page, starting in 1987, and a year as congressional news editor in 1992. Mr. Barr was born in Nocona, Texas, and attended the University of Texas at Austin, where he received his bachelor’s degree in journalism.  He served two years in the U.S. Army, including one year with the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam."

Amber Jay: NHS Grad is Southeastern Outside Hitter

"Amber came to Southeastern prior to the 2004 season and provided much needed depth to the Lady Savage offense. Prior to her arrival at SOSU, she spent two seasons at Wayland Baptist University (Texas). Last Season…Amber played in 31 matches as a junior and averaged 1.56 kills per game and added 2.62 digs per game. She was the only member of the Lady Savage squad to earn LSC North Division Player of the Week honors during the 2004 season, collecting the league’s defensive award on Oct. 18. She recorded double-digit kills on five occasions last fall, including a season-best 17 kills in the season-finale at Texas Woman’s on Nov. 6. Amber also had 10-or-more digs in 12 matches on the season, including a stretch of eight-straight games with double-digit digs. She recorded a season-best 22 digs in the Lady Savages’ win over Texas A&M-Commerce on Oct. 12. "

"High School…Amber is a 2002 graduate of Nocona (Texas) High School and earned All-State honors for the Lady Indians. She was honored as Academic All-District for NHS."

 "Personal…Amber is the daughter of Benjie and Donna Jay of Muleshoe, Texas, and is a heath, physical educationand recreation (HPER) major. She was born on Oct. 6, 1983."
