Thanks for visiting!
Located in north central Texas, almost on Red River, we
are situated approximately equidistant from Wichita
Falls to the west and Gainesville to the east. We rest
comfortably in the cross timbered plains which has just
about one's last glimpse of any trees as one gets into
the drier regions of west Texas. US HWY 82 runs east and
west, paralleling the Texas-Oklahoma border, right
through the middle of town; however, if one turns north
and travels down Clay Street, one will see most of our
businesses and schools. (Notice the maps on this page
are thumbnails that can be made larger.)

The history of the area is steeped in western tradition resulting from cattle drives that once moved up through Red River station along the Chisholm trail heading north. Also the area once hosted the famous Nocona Boot Company that shipped western style boots all over the world. Nocona lost the famous boot manufacturer but retained other leather crafters including the Nokona Athletic Goods, named after Chief Peta Nokona, who called the area home 150 years ago.
The economic pillars of the community include farming and ranching, leather manufacturing, and oil producing. The oil boom town days are long past, but independent oil men still make a living from the once famous North Field.
